Question Galaxy DX 48T

Long time lurker first time posting.

I have a 48T. Its AM / FM but no SSB. It was given to me by a friend in exchange for a cheap Jeep speaker system when I was in the service. I have used a Cobra 25 it was easier to use and I am pretty CB stupid when it comes to 48T. I have a few questions about installation and operation..

  1. I have a magnetic Wilson base loaded antenna for my Cobra. Will that work for the power rating of my 48T? If not what would you guys recommend? Ground it to chassis?

  2. What is the FM band for? And the 10k switch? I know according to the manual it has a 10meter Ham and I don't want to accidentally key up on a ham channel as I dont have a license.

  3. The power cord had been cut when I got the radio. Did it come with an in-line fuse? What amp rating was it?

How should I wire the radio? Pos straight to battery and Neg to chassis?

I just want to be able to use the radio properly and with peak performance as it is designed. Its rated at 50W peak output power so I know I can really reach with bounce. Thanks in advance everyone.

Why do you need a CB mobile radio that supports SSB—for transmitting or for receiving?

The dust shelf

I think shortly after I got my ham license I hooked up the uniden for a road trip and heard nothing helpful the entire trip so it went back on the shelf. It was a fun time in the early 90's for me and after moving to NC in from 2003-2015 I had a great base antenna and talked locally and dx when conditions allowed until the older folks started dropping off because of health issues ect. cell phones ruined the hobby. If you have kids, buy them a CB instead of a phone! 😑

Brand new Stryker 497-HPC

I know to convert from 10M to 11M cb, I'm supposed to be jumpering the connections, but I keep finding people saying it goes top to bottom as well as bottom to top and Google says it's a 3 pin (there's 4 obv)

Pictured is exactly how the radio came out of the box. I'm just hoping someone in here can help me figure this out before I throw it back together and hook it up in the truck to test it.

I don't have a freq counter atm, so I won't be able to get a test out without a whole separate unit for a radio check and would like to avoid needing to wait for that

Extremely high swr

So this is a continuation of my post. I bought an swr meter after I adjust to set switch to ref and meddle jumps right to the set line. Pegs the needle. Put the radio in another truck I know is good light goes out radio works fine put back in my truck ant. Light comes on I tried new coax hooked meter up pegs the needle. Swapped antennas with the other truck pegs the needle. Replaced the so239 studs no change checked mirror brackets for a good ground they have like .01 in resistance so that’s good. What am I missing?

Ticked off an Amateur

Had to go out for a bit to meet up with some friends. We decided to meet on a local mountain top and as we all talked, we were using my radio to talk to some other CB operators about 70 miles away. A local Amateur radio guy shows up, and the dumb ass parked less than a hundred feet away from us. He then informs me I am causing spurious emissions (bleed over) on his radio. I politely said No Sh*t Sherlock. He came over looked at my system (he did not get in my truck) and told me to shut it down or he was calling the police and FCC. Police didn't come but the park rangers did (the mountain is part of the national park system). Park ranger told him I had every right to be there and that if he wanted to report me to the FCC that that was his prerogative to do so. They refused to give him my info saying something about privacy. The guy took some pictures got my tag number and stormed off.

I am going to assume he will make a report and if the FCC does come looking, I will welcome them check the system. What I was using tonight was an out of the box stock Uniden Bearcat 980 with one of my & foot tall Skip Shooter antennas.

BTW I was reading posts earlier and people were talking about the 980 so I took it off the closet shelf and took it on my little greet and meet.

Back in the 70's I got two visits from the FCC and passed their inspections and once in the 80's Got caught with a modified Uniden PC66 putting out 1.5 watts. You guessed it even though modified I passed

Question Magnet replacement

Running a Uniden PC78LTX with Wilson 1000 whip roof mounted with magnetic base. Knocked the antenna to the ground when placing a ladder on the truck. The plastic protector came off and the magnet itself shattered and fell from the base. Can I just replace the magnet or do I have to get a whole new antenna kit? Roof mount is my only option. Suggestions?

Trying to interface RBI-1 keying buffer interface direct to Texas Star 350HDV

Good morning- tech question here have looked online on hooking the RBI 1 direct to the keying circuit located on the backside of the Texas Star but couldn't figure out the specifics on it. I allready have the custom RCA jack installed and ran the negative to the main black wire where it's soldered directly to the main board. Net has given very conflicting info on this some say remove the keying transistor that came with the original unit some say don't. Then some say solder to the emitter of the key trans some say the base and some.... Yeah the collector!? Then I also am wondering if you soldered the hot to one of the trans legs then r ya supposed to leave any of the 3 legs detached from the board or what cuz man, I've been down every rabbit hole with this & could use some solid advice plz? I was able to get the meter light to light up when keyed but no modulation is swinging on the meter when I key the mic and speak using mainly SSB voice. I thank any1 in advance for any helpful advice and again good morn. 459 East Central Missouri-operator Adam

Question Title: 1995 Pontiac Trans Am CB radio SWR is 3 with engine off and 5 with engine running — need help diagnosing it

I have a 1995 Pontiac Trans Am with a 4-foot ProStick CB antenna. The antenna runs through the factory radio antenna hole and is mounted on a custom bracket clamped to the factory spare tire bracket near the rear quarter panel.

My SWR readings are:

• Channel 1: approximately 3.1

• Channel 40: approximately 3.0

• Engine OFF: approximately 3:1

• Engine RUNNING: approximately 5:1

Channels 1 and 40 read almost identically. The mounting brackets are clean, bare metal, tightly clamped together, and have no rust.

I’ve been fighting this for months and can’t figure out what’s wrong.

What should I test first? Could this be a coax cable or connector issue, an RF grounding/ground-plane problem with the mounting location, a faulty antenna, or something related to the engine’s electrical system?

The antenna is mounted to a steel bracket I made which is clamped to the spare tire bracket which I stripped the paint from, everything is brand new, the antenna comes out of the hole that the stock antenna came out of

I’m looking for specific diagnostic steps to identify the actual cause rather than randomly replacing parts. Any help is appreciated

High SWR on Mobile Setup (Suzuki Jimny)

Post image
10 Upvotes

I'm installing a CB rig on my Gen 4 Suzuki Jimny to get back into the hobby after a break.

To start off, I'm using a Thunderpole T-800 radio, with a Mini Orbiter antenna using a gutter mount.

I'm receiving other stations well, but have thus far been unable to make contact with anyone myself. Using a SWR meter, I can see I am transmitting around 3.2w, but my SWR is high (2.5-3.0) across all channels.

I'm unsure of how good a grounding contact I'm making with the gutter mount, or if perhaps my roof rack is causing problems.

I'll check ground continuity once I have a chance with a multimeter, but has anyone here used the Thunderpole branded gutter mount kit (https://www.thunderpole.co.uk/gutter-mounts/thunderpole-gutter-mount-kit.html) and can suggest best practise for grounding? The screw mounts are done up quite tight, and should have gone through to the bare metal (Jimny paint is incredibly thin).

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

So I posted here before asking about a radio that I didn’t know about and everyone said make sure anything I buy has side band. So I have the opportunity to purchase two of these Realistics and one Cobra for $75CDN.
Do I figure out which Realistic works the best and then flip the other one and the Cobra?

New to CB with a new mobile setup

I just got the Retevis MB1 radio and its accompanying magnetic antenna installed in my 2023 F-150. As the truck has aluminum body panels, I am using an adhesive steel mount on the roof to allow for the magnetic antenna to be attached. Most of the radio traffic I am able to receive has heavy static and I can barely make out voices. This is on all channels, 1-40.

Do I need to modify my installation? Is the aluminum truck roof the problem? Am I simply out of range for clear reception?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Looking for repair shop near northern New jersey

My rci x9 needs some tlc, and im wondering if I can get some work done to it. From what I was told on my last post, the receive noise is on par for the radio. Wondering if there's someone out there willing to try and address it and fix it?

What's the problem with my setup?

I'm just trying to get into CB radio with some old gear gifted/I had laying around from my dad, the setup is made of an rci2950 from probably the 80's, 33 meters of coax 50 ohm from lemm (the big one, I don't remember the name), a Sirio signal keeper 1/4 wave and if needed a swr and power meter; my objective would be to DX at least in my country, possibly using just the radio (I have an amplifier but I don't plan on using it at least for now) but I can't get basically any signal, mostly static, some distorted talking masked by the noise and if I get good reception other stations don't seem to get me.

the antenna is mounted on a ladder and a pole, not that high but not too low compared to the position I would mount it (I plan on mounting it if I can get some good qso), swr is good, cables should be soldered good, why do I get nothing across all bands? (am, and usb).

I tried some ft8 listening but I can't get a lot, on ham bands I can read some traffic tho.

really any tips are welcome, for now my main worry is to be able to listen to something, also I should note that propagation should be decent, it's been a month so far, two weeks with this antenna

edit: I tried switching coax and radio (another old one), still nothing

antenna mounting question

hi all, looking to put a steel whip on my truck but didnt want to drill into the roof. ive seen antenna mounts that attach to the bed near the tailgate. i am building a headache rack and wanted to attach mine there. will the antenna work? i read that i need a ground plane but would it not work if it is on the same plane as the roof is?
