BEFORE SUBMITTING PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE REQUIREMENTS! YOU NEED A PHYSICAL NOTE INCLUDED, NOT JUST A PICTURE OF YOUR CAT.

Hello! To make things a bit easier, when it comes to proving who's the real owner of a said cat, we're introducing verified flairs.

Simply post a picture of your cat with a small physical note that includes your username (like a post-it note), and you will get assigned your own flair with the name of your cat(s).

(Remember that it has to be a physical note, post it, or similarly).

You can post here or send me a modmail and I'll get you verifying you asap!

I just want the best for them

Hey everyone, I’m just looking for honest opinions! I have 2 boy British shorthair boy cats, theyre incredibly bonded - eat next to each other, share litter trays, wash each other, cuddle, share litter trays and resources without issues ect. They’re 2 and indoor cats.

I’ve been in an abusive relationship for 8 years and I have finally decided to leave. He’s never hurt the cats, they love him which makes me feel incredibly guilty for separating them. My parents don’t know the situation but I’ve just asked if I can come home for a year to save for my own place and they said yes and yes I can bring the cats.

But they have a dog and brand new carpets. The room I can have is 6X7 feet so pretty small. But it has laminate floor so there would be no damage from cat scratching. The dog would not be allowed in this room (the dog is friendly, just excitable). I’m just wondering if it’s okay for them to mainly live there for a year, I’m home all day so they wouldn’t be alone, they’d have their huge 6ft cat tree looking over the garden where there’s loads of birds and entertainment. I’m gonna try and get a mid sleeper bed so they’d also hopefully have floor space under the bed, there’s built in wardrobes so I’m thinking I could turn the shelves into a den each for them with their beds to have their own quite space each. Their litter tray would have to be in the bedroom which isn’t ideal but I’ll just have to scoop everytime they go, change it every few days and get an air purifier.

They will have access to other areas in the house but it will be time limited. So they could come downstairs in the morning and play for an hour or so and have breakfast, they could do the same when they have their dinner and potentially a little longer late at night when my parents and the dog have gone to bed. So they’d be getting 3 hours minimum outside of the bedroom a day, I’d set this up as a proper routine. But I’m also worried this will cause them to meow at the bedroom door when they’re in the bedroom.

They may be able to roam the upstairs a little more in the day provided I can stop them scratching the carpet. I mean if they get on with the dog eventually, they may even be able to roam more but I’m unsure if they will get on with him.

I’m just looking for honest opinions and advice. I love them more than anything and giving them up is a complete non-negotiable. They do not like new people, they like my parents because they know them so that won’t be an issue. But giving them away would not only be heartbreaking for me but I think it would stress them out. Especially the blue boy, who really does not like new people.

Will this be okay for them short term? I know there will be initial moving stress but I’m talking about the limited space, I want them to still get on like they do now and not be stressed or depressed.

They currently live in a 2 bed flat so their current space isn’t huge but yeah obviously during the hours they’re in the bedroom it will be a lot smaller. I’m hoping this would just be for a year so I can save up a little money to move out just the 3 of us.

Also I’m not trying to sound ungrateful to my parents, I am very grateful, I’m just worried and stressed about my beautiful boys and looking for some reassurance!

Distraught missing my boy

Thursday at approximately 10.15am I lost my male 5 nearly 6 year old fit, healthy super fast indoor BSH CAT.

I’m a 47 year old guy that is and has always been mentally very strong, but this has ripped my heart out, completely torn me to pieces.

He wasn’t just a cat to me, he was my baby boy. My partner and couldn’t have kids after years of trying, so we replaced the not having human kid to have a feline baby.

He was my world. All day I’d think about what he’s doing, how I’m going to annoy him when I get home and often I’d have to have little chats about his bullying behaviour at times when he’d try push me around in the company of my partner.

Every morning at 5am he’d go sit and lie on my partners chest asking for pats. As I’m an early riser, as soon as he’d see my eyes open, he’d jump off the bed escort me down stairs to give him his big breakfast

He’d smash his paw into his bowl when he wanted more food, we have a large house and constantly he’d be sprinting inside.

I’ve never felt pain like this before. I truly don’t know how I’ll survive.
We got him at a time when we finally had to give up trying for kids through IVF, we got him when we finally shut our businesss after being stuck (couldn’t leave couldn’t sell) in a 6 year lease which ended Dec 31 2020. He was our gods gift Dec 24 2020

I have cried all day since yesterday, I have asked myself will I ever be able to overcome this pain.

I haven’t eaten in 2 days, bad stomach ache, painful headache and life at the moment just doesn’t seem important.

He was found 15 mins after I last saw him on the bed, what looked like peacefully sleeping but unresponsive.

My partner is a mess, im a mess and his brother from the same family has also been crying and looking around the house all day.

I have lost someone who brought me happiness everyday. I only lasted 30mins at the gym this morning and had to rush to my car because I was about to cry my eyes out again. I started asking my boy WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME.

I sit here now crying whilst typing this Kitty from above, if you’re watching down, we love you and are distraught without you

Are your British Shorthairs this affectionate, or did I get really lucky?

This is Cemil, my 4.5-month-old boy. He follows me around, sits on my lap in the mornings and starts purring as soon as I pet him. He also sleeps near me or at my feet.
Sometimes he gets up and walks away, so he definitely likes his own space too 😂 But overall he’s so affectionate. I love him so much.
Are your BSHs like this too? Did they stay this cuddly as they got older, or is this more of a kitten thing?

Is it normal for a 3-month-old British Shorthair to not look like a teddy bear?

My girl has a full pedigree, but she doesn't really have that iconic chubby, round British Shorthair look. She's only 3 months old, so I'm wondering if that's something she'll develop as she grows, or if some just look different?

Safe way to make my home smell nice

Since we got our BSH we did a lot of research and we got rid of all of our candles, reed diffusers, plug in air fresheners and everything that could pose a risk but admittedly, I miss my home smelling nice, it doesn’t smell bad as we clean every day but it doesn’t have the nice smells that it used to have,

Does anyone have any recommendations, I have read that reed diffusers may be the best option but I have also read that they’re dangerous,

As a side note: my boy isn’t a big jumper, he stays away from very high shelves and we do have places to put things like reed diffusers he wouldn’t be able to get to, but we do live in a 1 bedroom apartment so it is quite a small space
