Mod Post To ensure quality posts, please refer to our new Wiki page!

Hey beauties! As we approach 1 million subscribers, we are fine tuning the rules and made a designated page to see more detailed lists of posts we remove under Rule 1.

To recap, Rule 1 of r/beauty is to please post high quality and on-topic posts ONLY.

We understand just stating the rule so plainly leaves room for interpretation, while the side bar might not give enough room for explanation.

To improve the quality of the subreddit, we have broken down in detail (and will keep doing so) what we consider low quality and off topic in our new beauty wiki. This way, there should be less confusion on why posts labeled as low quality/off topic might have been removed. While browsing the wiki, you may notice some overlap with Rules 2 through 6, but they all relate back to Rule 1 due to preserving quality.

As a reminder, a high quality/on topic post would have a specific beauty-related question be addressed, or solve a specific beauty-related problem. For example, "How can I draw winged eyeliner more consistently on each eye" would be a high-quality post because it asks a specific question. In contrast, "EYE MAKEUP HELP" makes it harder for users to give their beauty tips because it's too vague.

When in doubt, please review the beauty wiki to see if your post would be in violation of Rule 1 before posting to avoid removal and ban.

We also invite you to leave feedback here of any other posts you feel are off-topic and low quality that have not been addressed. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Seeking Advice Should I cut my hair?

Hi! I’ve never had my hair cut or colored, so I’ve basically had the same hairstyle for years. I’m thinking about switching things up, but I’m nervous I’ll regret it. The first two pictures show my hair when styled with a curling wand. The third shows my natural texture (it’s naturally straight, but has a slight wave when I do a wave routine. The shorter pieces even curl up a little). My hair is fine and soft, but I have a lot of it.

The fourth picture shows my hair straightened, and the remaining pics are just my inspiration pics.

I’m thinking about getting a lob or a shoulder-length cut, but I’m not sure what would suit my hair best. What do you all think? I’d love to hear your suggestions! 😊

Seeking Advice How do you always smell so good? What’s the secret?

I want to smell good, but like, good enough that people actually notice.
For example, I love how men’s deodorants smell so distinctly masculine. You walk past a guy at the gym and you can actually smell it. I just haven’t found a women’s equivalent that does the same thing for me.
But there are also women at my gym who smell amazing when I walk past them. Every time I’m like, okay, I want that too 😭
What are you using? Is it deodorant, perfume, body lotion, or a combination of everything? Any specific products you’d recommend? Ideally something from dm or available here in Germany.
I don’t want to drown the whole gym in perfume, I just want to smell nice enough that you notice when you’re near me. What’s their secret? I genuinely think about this so much 😂

Discussion Steps after shower.

Immediately after showering, do we smear body oil first then lotion or is it the other way around? I'm confused. There are different answers and I've tried both. I don't know the effect is from the immediate change in routine or simply, my body is adjusting.

But I feel like my skin is glowing under the light 😂 and my leg is silky smooth looool

Which one do you do?

Body oil first then body lotion.

Body lotion first then body oil.

How much do you spend on beauty treatments, products, procedures?

I just got thinking recently how much time and effort I put myself through in the name of beautify and fashion, not to mind how much I spend on them. Just wondering how I compare to others?
Here’s a list of the things I either have done in the past or on a regular basis - waxing, hair, facial treatment, laser hair removal, tattoos, multiple piercings, nails, eyebrows, massages, not to mind a long list of products too.

Seeking Advice Please help me fix my uneven brows - I am so disappointed with my school pictures because of this

I’ve been noticing that my eyebrows are uneven in photos for the past several years. I absolutely hate it because I always look like I have an interrogative and curious expression, when that’s clearly not the look I’m going for. Please don’t suggest cosmetic work because I’m still in high school and don’t want to dabble with that.

Discussion what’s the safest way to wear lashes without damaging natural ones?

i finished chemo 1.5 months ago and miraculously kept most of my already thin and sparse lashes (none of my brows tho). i had enough to wear clusters the entire time!
however now, my lashes are falling out and new ones are trying to grow in. i don’t really have much for clusters in some parts, but i CANNOT leave the house without lashes. it is 100% a non negotiable.
i notice when i wear strip lashes, some natural ones get pulled out too. i do not pull any off when removing clusters. is there a better way to do this?

Seeking Advice Do eyelash serum actually work?

I’ve always seen these serums although it makes it hard to believe that I’ll just randomly start growing more eyelashes. I have decently long eyelashes but they’re not as many as I’d like and was wondering eyelashes serums will actually help that?

Eyeshadow prep

No matter what products I use my eye shadow always ends up like this within like 2 hours of applying. I use the urban decay primer, plus setting powder (before and after applying shadow) and setting spray and none of them help. I’ve always struggled with oily eyelids but I love eye shadow and sadly just don’t ever use it cause this always happens.

My other oily eyelid girls, what are we using to help prevent this?? Is there any hope for us?? 😫

Nailcare nail help

I was impatient and removed my dip powder nails at home…soaked in acetone and Castile soap for way too long. Obviously made a mistake because my skin and cuticles are now super dry and cracked. Any remedies for those who’ve made the same mistake I did? 😅

Seeking Advice How do you layer hydrating toner and skincare serums in a routine?

Hi everyone!

I’m trying to understand the general order of skincare products. I use the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner and am confused about where it fits in a routine that also includes niacinamide serum/ salicylic acid serum/glycolic acid toner.

I’ve seen different recommendations online. Some suggest applying hydrating toner before serums, while others recommend applying exfoliating acids first.

I’m interested in understanding the general reasoning behind these different approaches. What order do you follow in your routine, and does it vary depending on the products you’re using?

Haircare What are the best heated rollers for thin hair but a lot of it? Just want an easy way for hair to look volumised and presentable! 2A, prematurely graying coloured hair that looks unkempt

I had rollers before but gave up on them because my hair would just flop anyway… But - I LOVED just rolling them instead of sitting there with a straightener, round brush, whatever!

Straighteners are easy but blow drying my hair bone dry and THEN straightening takes too long.

And if my hair was to flop, would it still look styled?

Also - I’m not saying 2A/wavy hair is unkempt - MINE does. It wants to look scruffy and homeless lol…

Seeking Advice How to keep my hands soft whilst being active? (help with callouses)

I've been going to the gym for a few years now and recently started bouldering as well. Training my back and arms absolutely wrecks my hands, I'm developing crazy callouses. Luckily they haven't been peeling but the skin on my palms is noticeably "tougher". I've been lurking on gym forums and anyone seeking advice on this is incessantly told to just embrace it, and I would rather not, so I thought this sub might be of help.

I regularly use hand cream after washing my hands/whenever my hands feel dry: I naturally have very dry skin and dry hands so this isn't new to me at all but it doesn't help obviously, I might need something stronger. When it comes to products, heaviness or greasiness isn't much of a concern since my skin is so dry it'll just absorb everything anyways, so all suggestions are welcome. Also, this is going to sound irrational, but I would rather avoid using gloves, and will only do so if suggested as a last resort.

If you're a gym/climbing girl, how do you keep your hands feeling "feminine" and soft, if you even bother to at all?

Seeking Advice Weird Spots on my Leg(s)

Post image
0 Upvotes

I literally just exfoliated yesterday, and it’s not any body hair since I epilated recently.

I’m pretty sure they’re from my pores, but I’m not completely sure, but the area is smooth so it’s not anything above the skin.

Any way on how to get rid of them? Please and Thanks !!

Don't fall for Blushe!

I've been using Thrive Liquid Lash Extensions(tubing) Mascara for years. Fell for a Blushe ad that claimed their mascara was "lash casting" (whatever that means) and that it has serum in it to lengthen. I've only been using it a couple weeks, so I can't speak to the serum side, but this mascara SUCKS. It's much harder to get off than Thrive and it sticks your lashes together when you blink. AND IT CAME FROM CHINA and there was nothing indicating that on their website. Just don't. I'm so annoyed!

Discussion Dupes For Target's Discontinued Sonia Kashuk Body Butters and Shower Gels?

This may be wishful thinking, but I was in LOVE with the Sonia Kashuk skin care line from Target. I have no idea why they would discontinue such an incredible set of products which had such a devoted customer base... Yet here we are.

Target purchased the rights to the Sonia Kashuk formulas, so they were exclusively produced by them, then ultimately, by no one.

Are there any comparable products at a similar price point?

Also, If any company or startup could get their hands on those formulas and recreate them, they would have a premade dedicated customer base ready to buy buy buy!!

need help on how to regrow over plucked brows

does anyone have any tips for growing back overplucked eyebrows? i started plucking mine around 2 years ago, maybe a bit longer, and they just kept getting thinner and thinner until there was barely anything left. i stopped plucking about a month and a half ago and they have definitely gotten a bit thicker size wise, but they’re still really sparse and uneven. i also have hypothyroidism which causes eyebrow hair loss, so i’m wondering if anyone has any product recommendations that have helped with regrowth or thickening, or just any tips that worked for you. i’d really appreciate any advice because i just want my eyebrows to grow back.

ps: i cant use minoxidil because i have a cat!
