Hey yall! Been lurking for a while but this is my first post. Got to take the Forester out after some heavy rains and really push for the first time! I think this was about the max depth I could go without flooding the air box. Luckily it’s on the passenger side which seemed to stay up a bit higher out of the water.

I'm narrowing down my next tires for my 2025 Outback Wilderness (225/65R17) and am torn between the Yokohama Geolandar A/T4 G018 (SL) and Falken Wildpeak A/T4W (XL).

My use case is 95% highway, 5% genuine (light) off-roading: beaches full of driftwood, rutted two-tracks, forest trails, etc. No rock crawling. I have full underbody skid plates and frequently explore fairly remote trails, so durability and puncture resistance matter.

My dilemma:

• G018: ~29 lb. Seems like an excellent balance of on-road refinement and off-road capability. Evolution of the stock G015s that came on by OBW.
• AT4W: ~35 lb, heavier XL construction, aggressive tread, and a stellar reputation among off-roaders. Possibly tougher and better off-road, but at the cost of weight, ride quality, and potentially MPG.

Question: Has anyone compared these directly? Is the AT4W noticeably tougher or more capable off-road? And how much on-road comfort, noise, and efficiency am I sacrificing?

Did I few cheap upgrades on my newly purchased Outback 2018 3.6 and had the chance to drive it in its natural habitat!

Blacked some of the chrome trims, added the roof rack/basket and "fixed" some rust on the steel wheels.

2.5, 5 speed manual w 206k miles. New battery new tires. Needs all brakes including parking. I bought it for winter commutes and it is awesome, I drove if 3.5 winters. Starts right up and drives nice. Has issues ; the parking brake seized while parked for several months and snapped something when the wheels broke loose. Cannot get the caliper bolt off and have to take to the shop for extraction and will most likely have them finish the brakes, It will be over $1000 for all new brakes w labor. Which will bring sell price to 3k. Would you pay 2k as is? Would you pay 3k w new brakes? Has emissions light too and rear hatch only opens from inside. Thank you for your thoughts.

Angle looks a little steeper than it is in reality in the pic; I feel like the body lift has dropped everything down far enough I shouldn’t have to worry too terribly much about eating CVs; I know part of the issue is suspension travel; and I do have some reservations about using the aftermarket axles I chose. From those of us here with lifted subies.. and from experience.. does it seem like my CVs are at an unhappy angle? And am I wrong for thinking everything by is reasonably close? (This is an 05 Outback lifted approx 6” with what looks like a 4” body lift/ subframe spacer)

Any feedback is appreciated on issues I might anticipate as I rehab the rig

I have a new project. Decided to fly from Arkansas to Baltimore and drive this home. I made it about 200 miles before a CV axle went out, pulled over in an orileys snd changed it.. made it the 900 miles home from there no issues, day after I got home (yesterday) the CV I replaced grenaded 😂. I have some high articulation CVs from BAP coming so I’m hoping that will help some.

This thing was built in 2018 for one of the eastern Boxerfests and has since seemed to have lived a little bit of a hard life, but the 6” lift was well done and she has good bones, no rust etc etc. I’ll keep the world posted as I rehab this rig. Has parts from about 5 different cars between 2005-2012 that I’m presently aware of. Brandon W. Whoever you are you did good sir.

Hello, I recently picked up an old rectangular street sign thats about 30” x 24” from a flea market. I’m planning on using it as a DIY skid plate. My question is should I use it to protect the oil pan, or the rear dif. Might sound obvious to use it for the oil pan but CorkSport makes one specifically for my vehicle (Mazda Cx30) so wondering if it makes sense to just use this cheap one for the dif and buy the corksport one. The flea market also had smaller signs so I could go back and get a smaller one for the dif and use this bigger one for the oil pan.
