Health Insurance Question for Auburn University Employees

My husband has been offered a position at Auburn and is reviewing the benefits package. He comes from private industry and is enrolled in a fully insured health insurance plan. He has noticed that Auburn has a self insured health plan. Not being familiar with that, he researched self insured plans and found that typically the health benefits are better and the rates are lower than fully insured plans since the middle man is cut out. However, in comparing his current plan to the Auburn plan, he has noticed the Auburn rates are substantially higher and offer less coverage/benefits. Have the Auburn rates recently increased or have they always been high relative to fully insured private industry plans? For those who have been enrolled in a private industry health plan in the past and now have Auburn health insurance benefits, have you found that Auburn’s health insurance benefits are better or worse than what you had with previous employers? Thanks in advance.

20 m looking for friends

Hey everyone! I’m a 20-year-old gay guy and a junior at Auburn, law major. It’s been super difficult for me to find friends. I’m hoping to meet some new people and make more friends around my age. Sometimes it feels like I’m the odd one out.

Interests: music, history, movies, cooking, writing, tv shows, thrifting and trying to get into writing. I also really love trivia.

I’ve been looking to find people I can hang out with. If you’re also looking for new friends, feel free to message me or comment! We can chat about our interests, hobbies, or anything else and see what we have in common.

Auburn University Parking for football

Coming from Louisiana next weekend for the game. It's been about 25 years since I've been to the stadium. Any tips or tricks for parking at the game is there a lot with a shuttle or something like that?

ISO 2023-24 Glomerata

Hi! I’m a recent Auburn grad and I’ve just now realized I am missing a Glom from my sophomore year! It’s Vol. 127 with the navy cover and orange eagle on it. I know it’s a long shot but closed mouths don’t get fed, so if anyone knows someone who is looking to sell an extra or give theirs away, I’d love to chat!

If not, please impart some bookbinding wisdom if you‘ve got it! Thanks!

The Bike Shop on East Glenn Closed?

Always took my bike to get fixed at this place. Run by a nice guy named James. Went today and it looks abandoned. Please tell me it didn’t close down, and instead it just moved locations! Does anyone know what’s going on? Phone number just goes straight to voicemail. :(

Looking for .mp3s of an old indie band called Port City circa 2005?

So there was a band in Auburn in the early 2000s that did indie rock called Port City. Is anyone on here familiar at all or knows where to find their music online at this point?

Where is the cheapest Beer / Cases of Beer / Big ol’ Beers from stores?

I know the cheapest Liquor is the ABC down the road from the Fraternity houses.

I was after a cheap case though in the Auburn / Opelika area. Is it that ABC liquor store I mentioned? I’ve never even looked to see and maybe I remember them having beer.

Masters of Industrial Design

I am currently considering Auburn for a Master of Industrial Design. I was really curious about how well-structured the program is, considering practical and industry-based skills. Why should one consider studying here?

Shoutout to Roots Management Group for letting us live in a treehouse against our will

Thumbnail gallery
109 Upvotes

Just a little PSA for anyone considering moving into a Roots Management Group property in Auburn, particularly Conway Acres.

There's been a tree lying on our house for AN ENTIRE MONTH.

We own our mobile home but rent the lot. When the tree fell, we contacted management, who assured us they'd get someone out to remove it.

That was over four weeks ago.

I've called every week, sometimes multiple times a week, trying to get any information about when it might be removed. The answer is always some variation of "we're working on it."

Apparently Roots Management Group has ONE approved arborist in the area, and he just... isn't responding to their texts.

That's it. That's the plan. Text the tree guy and hope for the best.

Nobody calls us with updates. Nobody has a timeline. Every week I get to play my favorite game: Call the Property Manager and Find Out Absolutely Nothing.

Meanwhile, our lot rent continues to increase, despite the amenities existing mostly in theory. We have a community pool that hasn't been open in at least two years. At this point, the tree on our roof is the most accessible recreational feature they've provided.

Anyway, if you're considering living in a Roots Management Group community, I'd strongly encourage you to reconsider. Unless you've always dreamed of paying increasing amounts of money to live beneath a tree while a property management company waits for a guy to text them back.
