Announcement Updated Subreddit Rules & New Guidelines for the "Discussion" Flair + reminder for images and WT rules

Hey everyone,

Over the past few weeks, the mod team has been working on cleaning up and updating our community rules to make [r/animesuggest](r/animesuggest) a better, clearer, and more organized space for finding and discussing anime.
While most of the core rules remain the same, we have reworded everything for clarity, tightened up content standards, and introduced strict new guidelines for the "Discussion" flair.

Here is what you need to know:

New "Discussion" Flair Guidelines
We’ve noticed that the Discussion flair often gets used for vague, low-effort titles (e.g., "Thoughts?", "Anyone seen this?", or "Is this good?"). Moving forward, all Discussion post titles MUST explicitly state the anime, genre, trope, or aesthetic being discussed. From now on if you see low-effort title please report post for breaking rule 11. We are doing this to prevent repetitive discussion posts and titles who are later nowhere to be found in searchbar even if it was discussed about it!

Don't post: "Thoughts on this show?" or "Does anyone else hate this?"

Do post: "Discussion: The pacing in Steins;Gate" or "Discussion: Why cyberpunk aesthetics hit different."
Any vague discussion posts without a clear, descriptive title will be removed and asked to be re-posted.

Important Reminder: Image Uploads & "Watch This!" Rules

Images are ONLY allowed for "Watch This!" posts. Request and Discussion threads must remain text-only. Direct image uploads on non-WT posts will not be approved. If you are posting image for WT post your post will be sent to manual review because of image but don’t hesitate to reach out via mod mail for faster approval

"Watch This!" posts have high standards. They are meant to be single-show, deep-dive reviews and must be at least 1,500 characters in length. Short reviews or multi-show list recommendations are not allowed for WT

Based on survey results images will not come back permanently but we will have 14 days chill moderation rule twice a year where images and other media will be allowed but this will be announced later on during this year.

Thanks for helping us keep [r/animesuggest](r/animesuggest) a great place for everyone.

Mod Team!

What to Watch? Recommend me a horror anime that follows my criteria

1) The plot and narration must be based on solving one or more mysteries. Ideally there should be a big underlying mystery to solve that acts as a common thread for the whole plot (like for example: the Hinamizawa syndrome in Higurashi or "Who died?" in Another)

2) The mystery must be solved with intelligence, investigations and plot twists, not with beatings. So please no battle shonen that are defined as horror just because there are monsters

3) The supernatural element must be there: it can be more or less strong but it must be there. No psychopathic killers, no "it seemed but it wasn't" Scooby Doo style

4) No psychological mush disguised as horror, like "the horror is actually a metaphor for their traumas, the real horror is the pain of existence" (in this sense series like "Goblin Box" and "Ghost Mound" did not satisfy me)

5) The narration does not necessarily have to be dramatic or distressing: it could be or it could also be much lighter, it's enough that my criteria are met

List of anime I have already seen and that correspond to what I'm looking for:

Higurashi, Another, Dark Gathering, Gosick (it's more gothic/victorian than horror, but still falls within the criteria), Uzumaki, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Bem, Shiki

Thank you very much!

What's this From? (unsolved) I am looking for an anime from a scene

I’m looking for a modern 2D Japanese anime, probably released between 2015 and 2026.
There’s a scene inside a building where a slim woman wearing sunglasses and a very revealing outfit resembling underwear (bra and panties) is being followed by a man.
The man points a gun at her She asks him, “Are you a stalker?” and tries to take her card. She suddenly fights back, easily beats him up, and stomps on his neck very aggressively, pinning him down.
and questions him briefly before leaving without killing him.
She keeps her sunglasses on throughout the entire scene.
Does anyone know which anime this is?

What to Watch? long animes (long as in attack on titan long, not one piece long) with a really good story but that are not sad

i just finished attack on titan and im devastated, so i want to watch a kinda recomforting anime with a great story. someone recommended saiki k but I didn't like it at all cause it's just so random, and since I don't know much about anime im not sure if most animes are like that or what so i will clarify that i only like story centered tv shows. i haven't watched any anime besides shingeki so you can recommend any

What to Watch? I would like to watch some dark fantasy Mahou Shoujo

So I just had a sudden desire to see a Mahou Shoujo Anime that was a bit dark because I have been reading about the lore behind the Made in Abyss anime while occasionally listening to CardCaptor's Sakura OST that I was wondering how often dark Mahou Shoujo was used in the fantasy genre of anime.

Like what I want to see is a twisted Mahou Shoujo Anime that has some optimism in it where the heroes can win because the thing is that I did see Made in Abyss, but while that is not a Mahou Shoujo show, the dark nature of the first season made me suddenly eager to watch a twisted fantasy based anime that again has some optimism in it.

What to Watch? Pretty new to anime. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone and thank you for reading my post! To start off with, I've not been a long time anime fan at all but I've recently started to watch on crunchyroll and I'm enjoying it so far. This has led me to ask for some recommendations.

I've watched 5 animes in total and that's it... I've watched the original Yu-Gi-Oh as that's my childhood. I watched JoJo's bizarre adventure with a friend many years ago. Recently I've watched Solo levelling as the first on my crunchyroll account which I thought was amazing, then I went onto Overlord and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've just watched both seasons of Goblin slayer and did enjoy it overall but not as much as the previous two.

I don't know what to watch next and I'm finding it quite overwhelming with the amount on offer. If you could please send me your suggestions and recommendations I would greatly appreciate it :)

What to Watch? What do you think of when you think ofthe best 90s anime?

I think of Serial Experiments Lain and Ghost In A Shell. I also think of Eva fans who really need to get over the fact that not everyone cares for it, and some people have good reasons for this.

I also think of Sailor Moon and Cowboy Bebop. Also, see what I said about Eva for DBZ. Dragonball was good though.

I also think of a lot of early 2000s anime that I mistakenly think came out in the 90s but took a while to get localized like Trigun.

What to Watch? Medieval fantasy anime with likable cast?

Not into isekai/slice of life/slow anime/anime with video game-like rules etc.

Please warn me if SA is a significant part of what you're recommending. I'll have to think about if I wanna watch it or not.

Solo leveling is set in video game like world, it's not for me.

Friren and Witch Hat Atelier, Berserk, Dungeon Girls and FMA:B I know about, and they're what gets recommended the most. What else is out there?

Keep in

Looking for medieval fantasy anime with a likable cast(So no Konosubo). Preferably something fun and lighthearted with a decent dub, but freel free to recommend what you like that's medieval where you really like the cast.

Here's the 4 that I love:
Slayers is my favorite Comedy Anime

Record Of Grancest War is my fave anime period. Love that it stars a mostly all adult cast that look, talk, think, and act like adults, and get into relationships without it being a slow romance anime.

I love the first 99 episodes of Fairy Tail. That said, I watch it for the characters, especially Erza, Lucy, Happy, and Natsu. Please don't take this as an oppourtunity to recommend me something gross where the main appeal is the fanservice.

Dragon Quest: Albel is such a breath of Fresh Air for a shounen starring a man mc. Women have a lot more agency, and often get their chance to shine, death is permanent, and there's monsters that work for the main villains that aren't evil, and can be reasoned with. Also, the damsel helps save herself!

What to Watch? Cute spooky, creepy, or fun anime for Halloween!

Extra points if I can watch with my 7 year old - so nothing terribly gruesome or adult (but she loves creepy horror like the Little Nightmares Games and we reluctantly let her watch Demon Slayer because she fell in love with Nezuko)! Feel free to suggest any great if there's a dub and it's on streaming! Spooky ghosts witches, zombies, kinda creepy etc.

My suggests:

Toilet Bound Hanako Kun - she's obsessed with this one and it's a favorite of mine too. Great balance of cute spooky with light horror elements.

Soul Eater - favorite of her dad and mine and what we chose to watch as a family this October! I don't think you can get a higher level of Halloween fun than this.

Meiruko-chan - sooo I was on the fence at first because of the fan service/adult hints but my daughter loves the cute character vs the horrifying ghosts that she tries to ignore. I read somewhere this lessons after the first few episodes??

Mob Psycho - super fun and high energy around ghosts.

Zom100 - I would NOT watch this one with kids way too many adult themes but I had a chance to watch some on my own and love it. Has a lot of heart for a zombie anime!

Yuyu Hakusho - old school classic that never grows old. This one's definitely on our list for a rewatch with the kids. Grim Reaper, spirit detective aspect makes it a fun option for October.

Shadow House - so I just started watching this one with my daughter and we're hooked. Cute but definitely stll very mysterious and creepy still.

Sunday Without God - a world where no one is born or can die, the main girl is a grave keeper, one of the only ones who can put the dead to rest.

D. Gray-man - an older shounen anime around exorcists that always felt like a Tim Burton world to me! Not sure I can entice my daughter to watch this one yet but I'd recommend.

Blue Exorcist - good balance of fun and some creepier plots. I mean, they are exorcists so it fits?

Sugar Sugar Rune - something COMPLETELY cutesy, like a Halloween magical girl shoujo. I'd eventually like to watch this one with my girls if I can find it in dub. If nothing else, the short manga is totally worth owning and is way better anyway.

Ghost Hunt (2006 anime) - I feel and would love this one! No fan service, just cool ghost stories around a high school girl and team of Ghost hunters. So sad it's no longer on Crunchyroll.

Discussion What is a perfect, unhated well-liked and well-written female main character in media? Explain your answer.

People would answer Frieren, but the manga is currently on hiatus due to the authors’ sickness, so she would be out.

What to Watch? Queer stories with plot?

Hey I just found this subreddit randomly, hopefully this is a good place to ask. I want more stuff to watch but most live action shows don't really interest me (brain likes fun colors and character designs ig), and I'm kind of picky about shows sometimes. I've been looking for good queer anime, that actually has a plot other than "Oh no I have a crush on a girl but we're both girls!!!". Those are all fine and good but slice of life type stories are kind of boring to me. I'd also love to see some mlm stories since they aren't as often talked about, but any queer anime suggestions I'll happily look into! I'm mainly a fantasy fan, but I don't mind sci fi as well. Something where theyre fighting demons and they fall in love in the process idk. And I mean explicitly queer, to the point where there's almost no denying it unless you're absolutely delusional lmfao. Please don't just suggest popular stuff, there's a good chance I've already heard of or watched it. Thank you so mcuh, I hope someone can help me!

What to Watch? Requesting sibling anime with a wholesome nature

First of all, yes I know this is an English speaking forum as I say that because I was observing the Imouto trope in modern anime because some people accuse the trope of being awkward in how it’s used thanks to shows like Oreimo.

So what I am looking for is to see if there are any wholesome anime series that use the Imouto premise in a nice way without turning into what Oreimo became known for since that particular anime is one of the most infamous anime series again due to how it uses the aforementioned Imouto concept.
