Every element on these home screens is text: labels, fonts, colors and one gesture box on a solid background. No wallpaper, no icons, no images.

- **Stratagem Pad**: a Helldivers-inspired input terminal. The gesture box takes arrow swipes, so launching an app feels like calling in a stratagem.

- **Vault Terminal**: a green phosphor, Pip-boy-style readout. HP is your battery and CARRY is free storage.

- **Boarding Pass**: a paper ticket. GATE is your battery and the barcode is today's date.

The clock, date, battery and storage are live, and status lines like RESUPPLY or STIMPAK ACTIVE only show up while you're charging. Every label can be changed, and there are plenty of other dynamic types (calendar, music, countdowns, notifications). Regular wallpapers and gesture box images or animated GIFs still work too. This round I just wanted to see how far text alone could go.

They're made in CheatCode Launcher, where you open apps by swiping short codes into that box instead of tapping icons.

Hi all. I'm a developer in Perth, Australia, and I made this launcher. I'd really value feedback from people who care about their home screens.

Why I built it

I used to manage teams across Australia, India, Europe and the US. I didn't have a separate work phone, so messages arrived at all hours and I found it hard to switch off.

I wanted my phone to feel calmer without giving up the things I actually use. During work hours, I didn't want social media or other non-work apps pulling at my attention. In the evenings, I wanted work out of sight so I could spend proper time with my family.

I couldn't set my phone up that way, so I built a launcher that could. That's where Spaces, folders and group notifications came from: one layout for work, another for home and one for travel. You can be as imaginative as you like.

I also wanted the rest of the phone to feel good to use. That meant an app drawer built around large, clean type instead of a grid of icons, with animations that make moving around feel smooth rather than busy. It also meant folders that let me keep each part of my life in its own place: work, social, entertainment and everything else.

What's different

• Spaces: named home screen layouts for different parts of your day. One can be a single clock and another can be full of widgets. Plus they can change dynamically.
• Automatic switching: Spaces can change on their own based on where you are (GPS, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) or the time of day.
• Folders: group apps by the parts of your life they belong to, such as work, family or travel, so the home screen stays tidy and everything is still one tap away.
• Type and motion first: large, clean type and smooth transitions, including a full-width app drawer in 1 or 2 columns.
• Free placement: put widgets and icons anywhere and resize them, in portrait and landscape. Works on phones, tablets and foldables.
• Stackable widgets and icon pack support.

There are no ads and no pop-ups nagging you to upgrade. Hi everyone, I’m the developer of AuraLook, and I just released v1.7.

What is AuraLook?

Most Android phones don’t wake the screen for new notifications, and an AOD is often too subtle to notice them. AuraLook shows each incoming notification full screen when your screen is off, so you can catch it at a glance. It’s inspired by the iOS jailbreak tweak ShortLook.

This is NOT an AOD app, it is triggered only when a new notification arrives and your screen is off. You can use this with or without your AOD.

What’s new in 1.7:

Until now it focused on one notification at a time. v1.7 changes that.

• Notification count: shows how many notifications you’ve received in a row from the same app.
• Notification Strip: an optional row of app icons for notifications still sitting in your tray. You can enable this in Customization.
• New Gestures (Pro): swipe left or right to browse through those notifications.
• Reminders (experimental): a soft glance at set intervals for notifications you missed. You’ll find it under Advanced Settings → Experimental.

I’m not sure if Reminders work reliably on every device, which is why it’s experimental. If you try it, please tell me how it goes, including your device model and Android version.

I'm a solo dev. I've been building *brute for about a year: a minimal, monochrome launcher built around a tile grid. I started it because it's what I wanted my own phone to look like. It just came out of open beta onto the Play Store properly.

A little history:

Lightning Launcher is an "old" homescreen customization app developed by Pierre Hebert. It was targeted at power users looking for extreme customization featuring infinite layouts and scripting capabilities. This is a broad description as LL offers so much more! Some time in the 2000-teens, it lost maintainership and eventually was delisted from the Play Store. Thereafter, it was made open source where a handful of community members made effort to keep it compatible with modern Android and keep the app usable. Ultimately it was abandoned and the website that supported community and documentation was sold. The last time that LL got any real attention was around 2018.

And now today:

I have since picked up maintaining the launcher. I have spent the last 6 months developing new features and updating the code base to be compatible with today's Android. It has been a journey to say the least. But the app is once again available on the play store. I have sourced and forged documentation that is now available in app and started a discord community for it. We have plenty of veteran users and newcomers. The Revival is in full swing.

We created Leopard Launcher to relive the experience of Mac OS using elements from a few different versions making it our own.

Multiple features were implemented to make it as realistic to a desktop experience as possible.
