I don’t mean to sound rude, but Theo is like a little hellion straight out of the movie Problem Child. Putting myself in Buck’s shoes, I honestly don’t think I could have kept my cool—I would have snapped by now. At my old job, people would have called Theo "ill-mannered" and gossiped about his poor upbringing. But I realize it’s not just about how he’s being raised; I’m not even sure if Buck playing the "bad cop" and setting stricter rules would actually help—probably not, given Theo’s personality. I’m really curious to see how they’ll handle this; I honestly have no idea. Right now, Buck is clearly struggling, though you have to give him credit for trying. When Theo accidentally caused Chris to fall, I was terrified for a second that Eddie might lash out at him—let’s be honest, Eddie can be a bit impulsive—but I’m glad he didn’t. It’s a little sad, though, that—at least in the first episode—no one seems particularly concerned about what Buck is going through. I mean, Buck literally ended up with a broken nose because of Theo—that’s pretty intense, right?
I’ve also noticed that a lot of people weren’t fans of the volcano storyline. Personally, I don’t mind—I’m just intrigued to see how they’ll resolve it. I wonder how scientifically plausible it is? Could something like this even happen, hypothetically speaking? I honestly have no clue. But the whole lava thing looks epic—I mean, they’re firefighters, and there’s lava literally burning everything in its path...
•
u/Specific_Lettuce_521 19h ago
You think Buck should’ve lost his cool but you’re glad Eddie didn’t lash out when his son with cerebral palsy fell to the ground. 🤨
•
u/DieiElf Team Buck 18h ago
I don’t think Buck should have lost his composure. I’m actually surprised he managed to keep it... And yes, I’m glad Eddie didn’t lash out when Chris fell; yelling at little Theo over an accident wouldn’t have been cool at all. It would have made more sense for Eddie to get angry at Buck—and to tell him exactly what he thought, but away from the kids.

Just wondering if the premiere is a 3 episode event again? Sorry if this has been asked and answered, I couldn’t find anything in search…
•
u/spookyicescream Team Hen 21h ago
oh, 100%. it's part of their method. i've just come to expect it.
though i will be pleasantly surprised if it's only two episodes. i can hope.
•
u/SilverySage 20h ago
Thanks. You’re right about that, I should expect it by now. When it’s a multi-episode event, I rather delay until it’s all aired for multiple reasons. Sometimes it’s hard to tell/know without watching and I usually regret it! 😂
•
u/Aggressive_Lion_4649 22h ago
I’ve learned these days to avoid the first three episodes of the series, by episode four the madness has stopped and normal service has resumed.

Does anyone else feel like the editing is a little bizarre and very rushed? Every scene was cut so fast you could barely catch up what was going on
•
•
u/actingotaku 18h ago
I’ve noticed this about so many shows lately. Like they’re editing for people’s shortened attention spans. Everything is quick quick quick vs letting moments breathe
•
u/Fearless_Name_9967 21h ago
Yes!!!!!!!!! Three girls watched it with us, and we kept saying we couldn't see things because of the cuts! Those three storylines at the beginning, too! We were so thrown off.

Looks like thw writers room was watching Volcano from 1997 with Tommy Lee Jones.

u/sameoldrussianstan 1d ago
The episode was ok, I like the idea even if it is crazy. But the editing felt rushed and a bit off. Like it didn't flow nicely.
3
u/MethodHistorical2507 1d ago
I'm starting to hate these big disasters. They just like feel so crazy and not something that would happen ever that it's hard for me to enjoy. I did enjoy this episode until the volcano was revealed even tho that was at the very end. I want more episodes that actually feel kinda real or just like silly ones like idk the auction last season or the jinx episode. Also I miss Bobby so bad. This was kinda worded badly but I just wanted to share my thoughts.
6
u/Aggressive_Repeat529 1d ago
Acting seemed off and kinda forced. Cgi was off. Just didn't seem that strong of a premier to me

u/Embarrassed_Age_9296 1d ago

No, "What's your emergency?" Weird uniforms... bad acting? Maybe intentionally bad for reasons of nostalgia to be like 1990s thrillers? Apparently water doesn't conduct electricity... Something feels off with this premier. Chim, forgetting how to pronounce Diaz, the fuck?
•
u/BreadlyDangerous 13h ago
Fr the entire power line and pole fell into the water and it did....nothing? 💀 Like 911 we've lost the plot (literally)

u/Embarrassed_Age_9296 1d ago
Am I watching a bad feed with described audio, or is there a character offscreen narrating everything?

I just watched it on Disney+ and got bad volume quality (it was too low even at 100 volume on my laptop and I just finished rewatching Season 9 a few minutes before). I am now watching Season 2 premier of 9-1-1: Nashville on Disney+ and I had to turn down the volume back down to 80 on my laptop (Netflix standard volume is 60 for reference and this might be a Disney+ volume quality problem). For Season 2 of 9-1-1: Nashville, it's on-par with the volume quality of Season 9 of 9-1-1. I do feel like the subtitles were a bit off than normal though (I just use subtitles since I have an auditory processing disability and need subtitles to confirm what I heard).
3
u/luvprue1 1d ago
The narration nearly ruined this episode. I wonder if it was like that in real time ? Tell me did you watch it on ABC, or did you stream it ?
•
u/fastcombo42069 19h ago
I watched it via dvr on DIRECTV stream.
There was no described audio or narration. Great watch.5
u/Embarrassed_Age_9296 1d ago
Watched a PVR from a live recording. There was no narration on the live broadcast. Someone uploaded a version with described audio to a streaming site.
2
2
u/rosiespadozi 1d ago
that’s what i’m curious about as well because every site that has it up has the same thing & I’ve found at least 4 sites that have it uploaded
3
u/Embarrassed_Age_9296 1d ago
It's a bad feed with described audio. I found the broadcast from earlier, and it doesn't contain the same narration.
1
u/rosiespadozi 1d ago
Ahh that’s so annoying! Have to managed to find somewhere to watch without the AD?
•
u/glittermetalprincess 23h ago
I have, but I usually recompile mine to force subtitles so I might have accidentally switched the audio from AD in the process.

I wonder if Theo was born with a few screws loose, as he destroyed things, threw pizza at his adoptive parents, injured Buck, and tripped Chris.
•
u/cookierunningme 15h ago
They're probably doing an ADHD storyline with exacerbated symptoms to make it easy to write for, which tracks with the lazy writing we've been getting the past few seasons.
Not that severe ADHD+trauma can't manifest like that, but the way everybody reacts to it (including doctors thinking he's too young to get a diagnosis) are more the average experience of adults faced with a milder ADHD case. Buck just might catch a mild/moderate ADHD diagnosis too, it's what I always thought they were going for when they decided to bring that to the story with Theo lol.

u/Bootastical 1d ago
I can already imagine the rest of the season post-volcano episodes when they're back to driving around a pristine non-volcano-damaged LA like nothing happened.
6
u/jmrobins00 1d ago
I know this show is ridiculous but there are some things that really blow my mind. I live in Maryland; the Key Bridge was destroyed in May 2024. The (latest) most likely rebuild date is sometime in 2030. The fact that an LA freeway was back in service so damn quick is crazier than Athena's piloting abilities. We should've heard about them rerouting traffic around that at least once.

Idk feel like it's time for this show to go, Nashville is the mcuh better 911 in my view now. Time to retire the original. Volcanoes popping up in middle of LA, I know realism left this show awhile ago now, but this is more over the top then space and the cruise ship for me for whatever reason

Yes, it was! He was credited as a guest star
3
u/kaiser11492 Team Athena 1d ago
Ok. Figured it was him seeing how the creators teased how he has since gotten a comfy job with the city and would be coming back this season. Really wondering how he got that gig seeing how he caused the city a lot of trouble with his slip up.

He has definitely been on shows I've seen before mostly as one time characters. Although, most recently, he played the husband of D'Arcy Carden's character on Five Star Weekend (really good show imo), the loser husband being sued for sexual harassment and she's debating being supportive or not.

7
u/Lilly323 1d ago
I know you’re given answers already, but to give more detail if you don’t remember, Buck’s friend, Connor, and his wife asked Buck to be a sperm donor. he does so and we don’t see them for some seasons until the last and finally meet Theo. shortly after, both parents die in an accident, and Buck takes Theo.

u/BalkiBartokomous123 1d ago
Thank you! I needed that recap. I really enjoy this show but forget some of the details between seasons.

u/360madhatter 1d ago edited 1d ago
Buck donated sperm so his friend could have a kid a couple seasons ago. Last season the friend + friend's wife died, so Buck took in his bio kid.
edit: changed he to buck

They're dropping breadcrumbs about the volcano, even after the promo already told us there is a volcano so it's not a surprise but more of a 'how much elementary school geography cam you remember?', so yeah probably 4 episodes

I hope not. With 18 episodes it's getting absurd to spend nearly a quarter of the season on the premiere.
