Lol Elder Gong saying People are upset at small temples (instead of large) and reminding us not to worry about if a temple is large or small. They should have accepted small temple and steeple for Fairview if that's the case.

Gambling is terrible, but I cannot ignore the irony of a Billon-dollar corporation that DEMANDS 10% of the income of its members, is trying to preach financial responsibility

The church will not give members a dime to help them in times of need. Especially not in old age.

I agree on the gambling. But even if I gambled away 10% of my income every paycheck that's still far better than giving it to the cult. At least there would be entertainment value and a chance of a return, however small. Still more than the cult will ever provide.

u/Olimlah2Anubis 14d ago

While I think the topic is good for ANYONE, and thus have no problem with them addressing gambling in GC, I think it’s from purely self interest that they’re doing so.
Broke gamblers can’t pay tithes to the church, and can’t start families 6mos after their missions when they’re already addicted to gambling and unable to save money to establish and grow a family aka next gen tithepayers. Maybe I’m too cynical lol.

GC is no where near as inflammatory as it used to be. I want Oaks and crew to be as offensive as they can be. Of course the marketing and social engineering consultants have sanitized the talks to be as bland as white bread that isn't authentic enough to grow moldy.

I mean, maybe you'll nap, if you're not having a panic attack about listening to all the words and thinking them all exactly since were taught ordinances must be done exactly (baptism toe or hair floats, misspoken sacrament prayers, being shamed at the veil by the grumpy lady having to tell me over and over in the quietest whisper when I have problems understanding speech, especially that ear).

It seems that Mormon “theology” likes the concept of Jesus and the Father as separate beings partially because it forces Jesus to be “completely obedient” to the Father, instead of treating that unity as a shared divine nature that you’d see in traditional Christianity.
And then the church uses that to tell members they need to be “completely obedient” to the church.

I also agree with this talk, BUT it does bring up a bit of a worry in my mind....We haven't really heard strong anti-gambling talks in conference since i was young (70's and 80's). Is this a sign that Oaks will be retrenching back to many of the things that we were so worried about in the 70's and 80's (no face cards, no caffeine, etc.) The fact that Christofferson referenced an Oaks talk in his talk is also concerning. When Nelson was prophet, so many GAs would reference Nelson's talks in their talks...it felt very culty.

It's weird that Soares quoted so many people about fasting but didn't quote what Jesus said (Do it privately, don't let people know about it). In fact, he just called it an outward show/expression of charity.
(Someone talked to me in the middle, so if he did actually quote Jesus, then I missed it)

I do apologize that it sounds kinda preachy 😅, but I didn't have hope that it would get better for a while, and it was horrible. Both my parents are more supportive of me now, and I know that isn't the case for a lot of people, but there is good coming your way. We all have life challenges. Our challenges can be self caused or beyond our control. What you constantly hear in GC is that the solution to challenges is the Church (Gong). Certainly social ties can provide help and support; however, there are many (i.e., financial, time, self esteem) actually caused by the Church. The Church is not a solution as marketed. The solution is more related to building self strength.

Then that's all that matters
Yep. Approved questions, approved answers, approved conclusions are the only thing that matter to them.

Yeah, and I feel guilty now for all the times I bore my testimony and 'inspired' those around me.

Is it just me, or was the story about the family crossing the Pacific in extremely dangerous conditions to see an apostle an extremely vile story?
Any doctor - or normal person - could have told them not to go on a super dangerous sea voyage with little children. But they chose to do it anyway, because seeing an apostle was more important than their baby's life. And the baby paid the price of his life because his parents prioritized the cult.
This is the kind of story that negates anyone who says that the church is nice and good but doesn't necessarily have to be completely true. If people are sacrificing their children for this religion, and being lauded for it in general corporate fuckcast, then the religion had better be 100% true. Those people gave up the time they could have spent with their son in this life, in exchange for the promise of eternity with their son, which is what the MFMC purports to guarantee.
