Currently on book two of Portal to Nova Roma: Venice. Enjoying the series so far, interesting concept and the world building has been pretty good. Wish they had focused a bit more on the fact that the MC is an AI but overall sold 4.5 for me.

u/SteveThePurpleCat 15d ago
Give the overall (and well justified) wider anti-AI sentiments amongst readers it is understandable if the author would to downplay that element.

Crazy weeks at of drama and making the mistake of downloading Once Upon a Galaxy (which I'm spending too much time playing) caused me to miss a week and fall behind.
The God's Gauntlet (RR): Group of four strangers with various backgrounds are teamed up in a competition (Amazing Race meets DCC?). Feels character driven with good development and world building. Finished arc/book 1, and working to catch up. Recommend.
Leave Luck to Heaven (RR): Male MC, self proclaimed "best in world at Fire Emblem" streamer is isekai'd into a world with Fire Emblem rules for a goddesses entertainment. Has vibes of Live at the Forum where MC is still streaming and sees chat threads. Standard dregs of the internet comments and language there, which works for the story and humor, but might be an issue for some. Having fun with this so far.
Follow List
Ones I look forward to the most: Super Supportive, Allbright System, Center for Dungeon Management, Live at the Forum, Department of Otherworld Rescue, Metaworld HopeCore
Others: Bookbound Bunny, Path of the Last Champion, God of Trash, Sky Pride, The Cloudfarers, The System Seas, Rivera's Repairs, I Built This City, System Girl, Passive Aggressive, Arcane Chef, New Life As A Max Level Archmage, The Legend of William Oh, Ten Thousand Tragedies, Early Adopter
Fallen behind and need to reconfirm interest: Dungeons & Deliveries, Save Scumming, Die Trying, Fluff, The Butcher of Gadobhra, Tunnel Rat, Destiny Among the Stars, Azure Gunner
New:
Best stuff I've read this year (2026): Otherworldly Therapy, Live at the Forum, Center for Dungeon Management, Department of Otherworld Rescue, Metaworld HopeCore

Bavitz litrpg enjoyer yeah! The execution of the streamer element and some of the nuances of his character (and chat's interaction with the story) have been very unexpectedly enjoyable.
Not a shocker given all the wacky characters Bavvers has used to give me complicated feelings about.

Unbound series: Book 8. A lot of people hate the unbound series but I have personally enjoyed it. Just waiting for 1% Lifesteal to release it's next book.

Unbound is great! I really like the OP MC in it.
3
u/SharpShooter_143 20d ago
He took a while to get op as well. Harne was stronger than him and still a major threat to a lot of things for half the series.
3
u/Ventifer litRPG grandmaster tier 20d ago
Yeah, I like that it shows how he grew in strength overtime along with the other characters also growing in strength too.

u/A_Mr_Veils 21d ago
Mostly I have been plugging away at The Necromancer of the Immortal Realm, which remains just good enough to not drop. Something about what is essentially solo levelling in a cultivation world tickles me.
My read on release are The Hundred Reigns (a fun "evil" time loop fantasy story), and Leave Luck to Heaven (my current favourite story, a fire emblem litrpg with very interesting characters and a fascinating isekai fire emblem esque setting).

Idk what to do after that. Maybe go back to divine apostasy series

I'm on book 3 of Heretical Fishing.
I mostly enjoyed the first two, and I can't decide if it's the third book itself or my crappy mood that's causing me to not enjoy this one. I'm not a big cultivation fan and there's an awful lot of talk about chi now. The MC is really getting on my nerves, too. Also, fishing is boring, fish doesn't really taste that good, I'm allergic to crabs, and the whimsy is too whimsical. I might have to take a break.
3
u/Ventifer litRPG grandmaster tier 20d ago
I lost some steam on the third one as well. I enjoyed the first two just fine though.
3
u/DonKarnage1 20d ago
You're not alone. I dropped in book 3 or 4 for similar reasons.
Still would recommend people try the series based on how much i enjoyed the first 2 books though
2
u/RoniiBookishRambles 19d ago
Personally, I decided to pause the series because book 3 just took a nose dive into the romance between him and Maria down to the point of atomic family vibes and it was just doing THE MOST imo lol

I just finished reading the Apocalypse Regression series by Charles Dean and R.A. Mejia. It was pretty good all in all. I'm not sure what I'm going to read next. Either another regression series or maybe Chrysalis.

I haven't run across anything that's hooked me in a bit. Been trudging along with my normal follows, but haven't added anything new. My normal follows, in how excited I am for releases: DoTF, Immortality through formations (CN), 1% lifesteal, Elydes, Lord of the truth, RinoZ, CDM, Path of Dragons, Runesmith.
Unseen cultivator finished, I really enjoyed that. I'm extremely excited about Unhinged fury coming back too. I find it a bit heartbreaking that the 2 best moments of that are gated in the Patreon and never made it to RR. Only a few hundred people read them and they are super good.

u/Martini1 20d ago
Started Pit Fighter which is book 1 of the Victor of Tucson series. Just came off of Cradle book 6 and wanted a palate cleanser before jumping back into book 7 or 1% life steal book 4.
Only on the early chapters but so far so good. I don't really enjoy younger MCs but he is in-between that highschool college age so its on the cusp for me.
Narrator so far has been good which has been a huge plus for me after trying and failing to enjoy/finish Mother of Learning book 1.

I managed to get through all of July and August, and most of September, with reading only a single chapter of LitRPG.
That's because I bought my wife the first installment of DCC and out of tradition I read the first chapter aloud to her.
I read close to two dozen other books throughout that time. Much better than I managed earlier in the year - one of my goals for the year was to try to read for more than a month and not read any LitRPG. I managed to get from New Years to just about Valentine's Day.
So I basically doubled it this time.
These are the ones listed by Amazon, the rest were paperback. My wife has shuffled most of them off via her book swap group, but some were mysteries by Frieda McFadden or Ruth Ware.
The Museum of Second Chances - Jo Leevers. Woman running a tchotchke-level knick knack store discovers her stuff has history.
The Hunt for Red October - Tom Clancy. I hadn't read this since the 90s, so I reread it and was reminded how about 30% was different from the movie. (The movie is better.)
Ravenwood (Tanyth Fairport Adventures book 1) - Nathan Lowell. Low-technology Earth-like story with some fantastical elements.
Happier Here with You - Amy Gail Hansen
The Lost Souls Saga (Lost Souls, Lost Cargo, Lost Lives) - Noah Chinn. Alternate future Earth where Earth is destroyed, humanity is endangered and splintered, and one pour soul lost in time does his best to make a living.
Spaceship Mechanic Saga (Jump Drives and Coffee Stains, Boltguns and Duct Tape, Rayguns and Late Fees) - Jamie McFarlane. Mechanic tries to do right by someone who needs a repair on their vehicle, only to get kidnapped from mid-50s USA/Earth. Then it gets weird.
Unwanted Starship series (Unwanted Starship, Eyes Open Hands Empty, When Two Bonds Meet, The Evening Star, Nobody's Home) - John Walker and David Brown. Blue collar dude finds a spaceship in his plant's back yard. Shenanigans ensue.
I've just started book 2 of the Affinity Collector series by Jonathan Brooks.
3
u/DrNefarioII 20d ago
I started Iron Prince by Bryce O'Connor and Luke Chmilenko a few days ago. It's more than 1000 pages, but I'm over half way through already, and am really enjoying it, even if (maybe because) it is a fairly standard academy story. It's sci-fi, where people can get semi-magical weapons intended to fight mysterious aliens, and there's also a pro fighting entertainment circuit. MC starts weak but has an unusually high potential. I guess it's Prog rather than LitRPG.
I have found some of the characterisation a bit cringe, but I'm enjoying it so far.

doing a relisten to the Great Souls series, starting at the Rascor Plains. I mostly enjoy the series but there's so much of listening to Scorio going through his cocky near-sighted little-engine-that-could routine followed by predictable betrayal. shocked Pikachu meme and all

Nova: Log https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/182701/nova-log - Litrpg with a female MC. An astronaut gets separated from her crew and ends up on an alien world with a system. She must survive. I didn't make it out of the first chapter of this one. Every paragraph is double spaced and most are only single sentence. While some may find that style an easy read, I do not and it instantly put me off this story. There's some strange turns of phrase and just unrealistic takes like the MC knowing what severe dehydration is because she hadn't drunk anything in a few hours. Severe dehydration takes longer than a few hours to happen. The one that got me to drop this was something about chills not stopping her from freezing. Either AI was used to write this or English isn't the author's native language. Either way, I had had enough.
The Ethersmith https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0GF1G27FQ/ref=ku_mi_rw_edp_ku - Progression with a female MC. MC was born with 100000 negative spirit points and considered cursed. She's doomed to die within a year unless she's able to get to positive spirit core points. The MC gets to bond with a spirit even though that was supposed to be impossible and becomes a fugitive. Of course, she ends up in what is considered the most hostile environment for humans after fleeing her home village. There, she has to fight to live. This one is bad too. I did make it past the first chapter though. Somehow the MC has been a smith since she was two and was the first thing that put me off this one. I get wanting to make your MC special, but working in a forge at two? Come on! And of course being able to kill monsters in a place where even the most powerful spirit bonded humans fear to thread was just the icing on the poo cake.

The Path of Ascension! Last 20% of Book 2. I’m just so fascinated by the larger politics and such at play with the world-building and higher Tier people. The fighting gets super repetitive for me though.

I've been reading/listening to Taming Destiny by SL Winter this week. The first three books are on audio, so I was listening to them. Book 4 is on KU (1-3 are on KU, too) so I read that. Now I'm on to RR for book 5. It has a mix of slow thoughtfulness with action. But you get a good sense of the mc's progression, both in terms of power and on a personal level. Sometimes stories that go slowly drive me crazy, but this one is engaging.
The premise is that a man in modern day England is at a super low point in his life. As he's drowning his sorrows, a person from another world portals in and offers him a chance to be heir to a prominent house in the other world. The guy is so drunk that he doesn't understand much that he's told. The next day he activates the seal left for him, not knowing if it's real or not. He ends up in a wilderness world where he has to survive for a year to prove himself. He gets some knowledge stones and a class stone for a taming class. From there it's survival and learning to understand magic and dealing with the sentient creatures that live there. At book 5 he still hasn't completed his year yet, but we get glimpses of things happening in the world of his patron at the end of each book to show the situation there.

I was working through The Calamitous Bob, but I found out after book 4 that not all books are on Kindle Unlimited yet. While I wait for the rest to transfer, I've decided to join the colony and started Chrysalis. Only about 20% way into the first book.

Almost done with book 11 of primal hunter. So far, Nevermore is surprisingly good. His fight with Valdemar was incredible and i hope to see Jake pushed even more. House of the Architect isn't so bad, though i can absolutely see why for weekly readers it would've been a total slog. All in all, I'm excited to keep pushing forward

Hello, Hello!~
Audiobook (all on Libby)-
1% Lifesteal by Robert Blaise- I stand by what I said, Freddy is a FAWKIN LOSER. I still love his ass and look forward to what everyone calls "misery porn" I suffered through fullmetal alchemist. I think I'll be alright lol
Lights Ascension by Seth Ring- sobs that the series is over. I wouldn't be mad if he decides to come back to it in the future with the possible neighboring settlement. Especially since he forced all the exclian to leave.
Scamps and Scoundrels by Eric Ugland- This hasn't been gripping me as much as the good guy series but it still has random bouts of comedy. I do appreciate the easter eggs to montana.
Second Story man by Eric Ugland- ditto to the first one, I'm less inclinded to go on with the bad guy series but since they'll merge later, I'm curious where it'll converge. Especailly since we got the emperor's POV and the effect from Cleeves death
Currently Reading-
Runeseeker 3 by J.M. Clarke and C. J. Thompson (67% in, audiobook on Libby)- sooooooo WTF, is someone gonna die every book. I'm scared to get attached to anyone anymore wtf. YANALIIIIIIIII JUSTICE FOR MY COMEDY KING. I mean I have a feeling everyone still alive and going to come back later. (and if not, let me be delusional lol) side note, I can't say I hate the simulated with the romance with Cina but also, its just so random since no one gave romantic vibes in the group as a whole. they just all felt like siblings so this whole dungeon fucking with their memories and times just feels wierd
Bastion by Phil Tucker (56% in, e-book)- I read 1% further and then went to renfaire so haven't picked it back up since I was reading Arcs.
Paused-
Magic Murder Cube Marine by Alex Karne (Paused at 50% if I remember correctly but will pick up again soon since I found out the next books are on RR!)
Mage Tank by Cornman (paused at 52%)- debating whether or not I want to continue since I was enjoying it and then it started info dumping which brought on the pause.
Next reads (all on Libby or bookfunnel)~
The Wandering Inn (one of my libraries added a second copy so now I have 21 days instead of like 10 to read it lol )
Wild Wild Quest
Don't Die Dave
Drop Dead Dave
Something: Full Murderhobo
TBR-
Ultimate Level 1: Shattered Limits by Shawn Wilson
Riftside by Cassius Lange and Henrik Saetre
Skill Hunter 2 by Noct
Void Sovereign by Zaker Syed
Path of the Deathless by OstensibleMammal
Primal Hunter 4 by Zogarth
System Change Savannah by SunriseCV
Battle Mage Farmer 3 by Seth Ring
(if anyone is keeping track, I clearly never stick to my TBR. stuff keeps going on sale and my kindle TBR is long AF now. I'll never catch up T__T lol Libby is also not helping since I keep getting distracted from Kindle)
On Hold on Libby*- Dungeon Born by Dakota Krout, Arcane Kingdom Online by Jakob Tanner and The Grim Guys by Eric Ugland.

Just finished Stormblade which was quite enjoyable. Starts off very much like Solo Leveling but diverges a bit as the story progresses. Scratches that progression fantasy itch quite nicely :)
Now I'm tackling Ruin, the last book in the Unbound series.

I've been caught up in the LARP mines, got home yesterday after four brutal days back to back.. but I've actually been reading a lot in the past 2 weeks, almost entirely..
Hidden Class: Pacifist and Hidden Class: Handyman by the same author on Kindle.
Hidden Class: Pacifist (6 books) is finished, and follows the MC who used to be the most deadliest dangerous character in your standard VRMMORP setup, who was sent to prison for crippling someone in the real world. He's released after completing anger management, and is immediately kidnapped and locked into.. a new VRMMORPG with pain sensors set to max, then murdered a thousand times by minions of the person he crippled. The pod will keep him alive, but will explode if he tries to escape! And his stats are crippled by the thousand (literally) deaths! He can only escape if he reaches the top of the player charts!
The good: This has an interesting system. As the title suggests, the MC earns the hidden Class, Pacifist, and mostly gains XP from making friends and allies of NPCs, and forming trade routes and peace with them. So he's not fighting, but questing, trying to find out how to get involved in NPCs stuff, and growing that way. Number go up in a satisfying fashion.
The bad: The character writing is horrific. The MC is allegedly a former master high level player of games, guild leader, and has spent time in prison learning and growing. He comes across like a very stupid toddler. Later on it tries to say "oh he has PTSD" and that's pretty offensive to those with PTSD! The main antagonist is written worse than a cartoon kids show villain, and I'm honestly surprised it didn't just have a montage of him kicking kittens to show he's EVIL and MEAN and SADISTIC. The MC is repeatedly saved by deus ex machina super powerful NPCs buddies (it makes sense, he can't fight) but he literally spends a climactic fight sitting on the ground knitting. The final book feels very rushed, it just blasts through things.
That said, I read the whole damn series so it can't be that bad? 5/10
Hidden Class: Handyman (6 books, unfinished) is much better. It's published later, so I assume it started after Pacifist.
This MC is a repeated lazy loser, who quits his job for the youtube views, is then dumped by his girlfriend for being immature, then goes home to be told by his parents he now needs to start paying rent since he refuses to take things seriously. For lack of a better job, his friend recommends he get into this new VRMMORPG which you can make real money in! He tries to start several crafting professions, quits because they're too hard, and then is pushed into a special quest which unlocks the Handyman class. This lets him learn many Minor professions, no Major ones, and can't fight. He proceeds to find lots of unknown synergy between them, finds a group, and grows. Later books turn into more base building stuff.
The Good: The same interesting System, albeit this time focused on crafting rather than diplomacy. The character writing is much better, not mind blowing but quite functional. The cast of characters is actually interesting! It adds base building stuff which I am a sucker for, and is technically a prequel to Pacifist. Lots to grab hold of if you like crafting.
The bad: A lot of long descriptions of crafting in a few of the books (I skipped the whole section of learning how to program clay robots not gonna lie). The MC gets more lucky breaks than are reasonable but I guess he has a high Luck stat?
If you like crafting, and just on the other side of cosy (there's one book which is just a long base defence but even then the MC doesn't fight, and spends a lot of time interacting with NPCs), I'd definitely recommend this. 7/10
Still reading on RR:
Best of the best: Center for Dungeon Management, Gift of Loot, Apocalypse Reborn, Department of Otherworld Rescue, Path of the Last Champion, My Kaiju Evolution, The Apocalypse is a Business, Metaworld HopeCore.
Still good: Ascension of the Primalist, Time-Looping Baby Refuses to Die, Passive Aggressive, Live at the Forum, Sword and Maze: Long Shot Bet, Ten Thousand Tragedies,

I am on Book 1 of Reborn as a Demonic Tree. It’s pretty fun. I read a manhwa or manga about the same concept and I thought it would be the same. But this one has its own unique take. Maybe it’s a different kind of tree, hence the different paths.

Wizard with a Greatsword 1 by Amelia Crawford - I loved this one! The MC has such a whimsy about her, and I love how she uses her instant, silent teleportation ability. It's also got a nice party focus that I don't usually see.
The system is pretty fun, too, and the adventurer journals are such a neat concept. They're a magic item that's the only way to view your stats in this world, and because the MC inherited her late mother's journal, she's slowly unlocking her mother's writings as she progresses in power. Her mother has quite some interesting things going on.
My only complaint is that she's only a wizard in that she wears a wizard hat. Don't go into this expecting someone who's studying the deep secrets of magic and happens to use a greatsword, she's more of a greatsword fighter who can teleport.
I'm really hoping to see more of the books make it to audible.
This Trilogy is Broken! by Andrew Tell - Really fun premise on this: a girl gets her life quest from the questing stones, which unlocks your class, and hers is to go to the next town over and pick up a loaf of bread. I usually avoid books with a comedy focus that seem unserious, but I couldn't help myself with the premise and ended up listening to the whole series. It was a great time, and really pays off a lot of things its sets up. Plenty of jokes made me have to stifle laughter at work. Also, love to read a litrpg series that's complete. Also also, loved the queer rep. It's rare to see a happy M/M couple as major characters in this genre.
Level One God by Zachary Scott - I saw a post recommending this book a while back, and the first book was free on audible with my membership, so I figured, why not? It has a strong premise: A guy wakes up finding he's been isekai'd, but very soon finds out he was actually isekai'd many hundreds of years ago and had already ascended to godhood. Yet for some reason, his old self reset his level, wiping his memories to make the climb again but with prestige mode that gives him extra benefits.
I thought it was pretty good. I love the system here, it's statless, and while it's a kill-to-level affair, the crafting classes can still progress even if that number doesn't go up. Only the MC has system notifications because of his special magic item, while everyone else needs special tools or vendors to see their progress. Personal spaces are really cool too, an extradimensional space you can decorate with items to gain benefits. Excited to see how that goes for the MC.
I did find the humor to be a bit crass at times, though it's nowhere near Mayor of Noobtown levels, so it's fine. I'm also a bit iffy on the relationship between the MC and the guard lady he's set up with. I'd love their dynamic if she didn't have some tsundere moments.
Overall, do recommend. It's a good time.
