NAVI top 4 in their first (real) year in the league with basically 3 rookies. very impressive if you ask me
50
u/ZloiAris Sep 11 '26
It is insane how this org keeps finding success in different disciplines while keeping their budget intact.
One series away from Worlds for a squad which most of us see as top-8 at best

u/DefNotAnAlter Sep 11 '26
I think the signs were there all the way back in Winter, personally not surprised

Turns out getting rookies in and trusting ERL players is a good choice. God I miss Relegation.
Their 3 best players are the 3 European rookies (or basically rookies in Parus' case). If they get a good ADC (Jopa f.e.) and a good midlaner with some experience (Nemesis, but I doubt he wants to. But someone comparable), they could be a force.
8
u/FikariHawthorn Sep 12 '26
It's not just rookies ERL players. Since the orgs itself is new, they also got ERL coaches who are here because they proved themselves instead of nepotism.
TheRock7 did a great year with KCB already working with Maynter, and GotoOne is an experienced assistant coach that's likely the reason behind the success of BDS in 2023.
The failures of teams in LEC are always first caused by incompetent GMs, above players factors (Heretics with the constant switcheroo, SK with the blank check to Mikyx and the Köln base, FNC with Dardo, SHT keeping Striker way past is due, etc)
Players showing good promise in ERL but failing to trasform in LEC is mainly because they didn't get the good environment to make the change. I'm sure teams like Galions today have a better working ethics, staff and environment, than half of the LEC.

u/SeismicShove Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26
Basically 4 rookies you mean? They have 3 full rookies, plus Poby who only played 1 split with FNC. And then Parus who played 1 year on a bottom tier team. Might as well call it 5 rookies lmao
Edit: Guys I'm wrong SamD is not a rookie mb

is SamD a rookie? i know he played summer last year same as poby but idk where he was before
86
u/Miserable_Ad_1195 Sep 11 '26
SamD is definitely not a rookie he already played in LPL in 2020 with V5 (the cast mentioned them in game 4 or 5 even) and he also made internationals when he was in Latin America I think?
17
u/eVill_YT Sep 11 '26
SamD has played like 4 years in LCK+LPL combined, and an extra year in south america. he's one of the most experienced players in LEC
11
u/FlashDab Sep 11 '26
He's been around for a while. He's played in both LPL and LCK before, but not super inspiring outside of a split on a very fun Victory 5 team in LPL.
11
u/SeismicShove Sep 11 '26
Not gonna lie I completely forgot SamD played last year, but yes you're right. My bad.
All in all, these 5 guys COMBINED have less experience than Oscarinin for example. Incredibly rookie team.
26
u/pzBlue Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26
less experience than Oscarinin
SamD (as Hans SamD before dropping Hans) played in t1 leagues for ages now (since like 2020/21 iirc), with small gaps here and there and was on t2 rosters. Oscarinin is in t1 since debut on FNC in 2023.
He even played for HLE in LCK, and had some fun time with V5 in LPL (don't remember which one was 1st)
15
u/EliteTeutonicNight Sep 11 '26
SamD has played in LPL as early as in 2020, then LCK in 2022 with HLE, then bouncing around several regions. He spent 1.5 years in tier two before Navi, but he's literally the most veteran player in today's match. He made it to tier 1 at around the same time as Zeus, Oner, Guma, and Keria.
Not to take away the overall impressive year that Navi had, just that they aren't a full rookie team, even if their veteran is a Korean who happens to be their weak link.
3
u/jfsoaig345 Sep 11 '26
I thought I was on the Dota sub for a second! What a blast from the past hearing from this org 15 years after they captured gold at the first TI
2

This Rhilech guy is kinda good, maybe he'll be the Rookie of the Year
Rhilech on Aatrox and Old Aatrox Pro Max Zaahen is always a beast
46
u/desutruction Sep 11 '26
SamD didn't have a very good series but he was doing numbers on that Ziggs, made the game-winning offensive satchel too
15
u/Bubbly_Camera9583 Sep 11 '26
SamD wasn’t that bad. He had a good ziggs + Xayah and had some moments on Lucian. His only real bad game was on Ez, where he and Parus were just running it, that varus game is completely on Poby/Maynter.

Draft was lost for GX when they gave aatrox to Rhilech, regardless of the other champs in the game.
3
u/Beginning-Mark1735 Sep 12 '26
Imagine for a moment: Game 5, you have a draft where you don't need to fight early or do something because you simply scales. You the 2 first drakes, what Gx do? --> permafight

Step 1: Pick a late game scaling team comp
Step 2: Force early game fights repeatedly against the opponent that has a really strong early game team comp
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Lose
Rhilech undoubtedly the star of the day but Maynter was very good and lowk gapped Oscar the entire series.

Finn on the broadcast was actually BEGGING GX to stop man! they had a full scaling comp and Jackies goes for an 18 minute flash Azir ult. Oscar goes for a 3 minion GP ult. Sejuani just invades raptor camp after raptor camp only to lose them too. Who cares if the Sej is 10 levels down???
86
u/shailemin Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26
One must imagine Jackies happy.
On the other hand, how good is Rhilech? Insane carry job.

22
u/Martinoslav832 Sep 11 '26
Well if GX didn’t have Jackies they would get absolutli shit stomp. He was trying play high risk, becose if he didn’t, GX wouldn’t get any chance to win. He was playing 1v9 most of the time
13
u/KKilikk Faker JKL VIT Naak Nako Sep 11 '26
Jackies was their best player. Game 5 was still throws by him. I get that he needed to go for high risk plays in some cases. But not in this game.

u/M8Cheeseman Sep 11 '26
We all know MKOI will somehow clutch out that spot, the Worlds humiliation ritual is inevitable.
2
u/ParkDedli Sep 12 '26
No offense but please no. I just want some new blood at an international and NaVi really deserves it. Even if it is just Rhilech carrying and the other ones getting shitstomped. The scrimming alone will do them some good and MKOI really doesn't need it.
105
u/TheSnekKing Sep 11 '26
Putting your best player on the Azir that hasn't won a proplay game in god knows how long is definitely a choice. Like if no one in LCK is playing Azir there has to be a pretty good reason for it.
Though I guess it doesn't matter much if all his teammates keep getting caught
44
u/Vnaux Sep 11 '26
that Azir was trying to do a late game move on an early game skirmish that fucked up the whole scaling plan
16
u/curlyfriezzzzz Sep 11 '26
It was insane to attempt that especially when the viktor is safe and close enough to retaliate
23
u/KKilikk Faker JKL VIT Naak Nako Sep 11 '26 edited Sep 11 '26
Jackies trolled a lot though going for unnecessary shuffles. The game went from even to -2k when he tried his first shuffle on Aatrox with flash for 0 reason. Completely trolled his GP who got doven and lost his tower off of it as well.
→ More replies (1)5
u/ElBartimaeus Sep 11 '26
Jackies tried his hardest to carry throughout the series by making high reward plays, which were high risk most of the times. He really has to step up and pull out some insane moves to carry this team. It backfired more than once but it won them 2 games and made an other closer. I really wish to see him with a real playmaker so he has a bit less pressure on making THE play all the time.
50
u/Past_Perception8052 Sep 11 '26
hes a good azir let him play what he is good at in a g5 fuck the meta bro nobody plays aatrox jungle either
17
u/curlyfriezzzzz Sep 11 '26
He fucked up the shuffle in the beginning that put them in the hole in the first place, it was bad
30
u/deemerritt Sep 11 '26
I mean he didnt fuck up the shuffle he just absolutely should not have gone for it lol
2
u/curlyfriezzzzz Sep 11 '26
Essentially the same thing, even if aatrox didn’t flash idk if they win that
2
u/deemerritt Sep 11 '26

u/Bothbothwushi Sep 11 '26
You are a pro league of legends team and you drafted full scaling. You go up 2 Drakes to 0 with full scaling. Do you force fights into a mid game composition in order to further your position more while risking the entire game? Or do you concede and wait for your win conditions to be met so your probability of winning the game is at its highest?
12
u/Back2Perfection Sep 11 '26
Also all t1 towers (aside from bot I think) were standing at that point. Just give that drake and get more gold on caitlyn and azir.
It‘s not rocket science.
9
u/Bothbothwushi Sep 11 '26
Yeah it's genuinely disgusting. Solo queue teams have shown better understanding of composition win conditions than this team. You give the next 2 Drakes guarantee free scaling for 10 minutes and then azir, caitlyn and gp delete whoever walks up
→ More replies (1)4
u/Toofargone9999 Sep 11 '26
they should posture and prepare to disengage from the fight and let azir take top tower . Some decisions they made were very puzzling and they opted to fight and help enemy team accelerate which they should be preventing at all cost , great job GX

u/S_apostrophe_S Sep 11 '26
Ziggs literally had to flash the triple barrel, it would have hit. His mistake there was positioning and not flashing onto the other side of Ziggs W.

In this episode, Jackies went harsh on Isma:
"I felt speaking gently won't work, so I decided to be a bit harsh."
"You always pick Vi and Nocturne against Naafiri, then you get outganked by opponents' Shyvana and Wukong. Tell me, did you ever manage to smite an objective? "
“Is it that hard to master Nocturne in one season? Dude, you always first pick Xin or Vi, and you played Sejuani like shit.”
Isma: "okay."
Oscarinin: "This is the first time I saw something like this, I was stunned."
Jackies also added in the interview:
"Isma is still young, he can still play, and he can still play for a long time. If he can understand the reason behind it, maybe he can play better and better in the future."

Thought the same in Spring playoffs when Lyncas met Elyoya, you just clearly see the gaps in junglers when the games really matter.
Thought GX did well just to get to Game 5.

u/OreRound Sep 11 '26
What a banger, but Rhilech completely made fun of ISMA in every game. All the games GX won were NAVI throws more than anything. What a player Rhilech is.

Pretty disapointing finale.. tbh if Jackies doesn't decide to go in and gift Rhilech a double kill after second drake, Gx probably wins this. Sad because he was scaling pretty well this year.

u/kismetjeska Sep 11 '26
Someone take Rhilech out back and suck him silly. Lord knows the man deserves it.

u/xsm17 Sep 11 '26
There's something poetic in giving Oscar a GP counterpick and him getting caught out being the final blow. Also ISMA looked like he tilted out of this series from the get-go, what were those Sejuani ults

u/p1stolpewpew Sep 11 '26
Oscar caught out was not final blow, jackies not killing the wave and hitting aatrox for some reason while kiting into blue buff - did

i like how jackies was smurfing the BO and they drafted him on azir who's bad rn and is by far the champ he's the worst at.
putting your adc thats good at weakside on caitlyn was also smth

u/NeighborhoodHot8981 Sep 11 '26
If only LEC/LCS is playing Azir you know the pick is fucking turbo dogshit and teams keep picking it, I really don't know why.
3
u/Danixd_ Sep 11 '26
It's game 5 with Sejuani, Braum. Only issue with the Azir pick is that Jackies always goes for unnecessary shuffle plays on the champ.

u/Dest1ny1 Sep 11 '26
I've never seen someone get gapped so hard by their counterpart for five games in a row, that was crazy.

u/OkWhateverCynisme Sep 11 '26
This is legit a true 1 vs 9
Rhilech was above everyone this serie, not even his grifting team could stop him from winning.
10
u/tzukitzu Sep 11 '26
You would have a nasty roster combing the best players of these two teams

I feel bad for Jackies. He had a good year. That shuffle sucked tho.

GX Oscarinin: "I didn't agree with how Grabbz handled our talks after each split ended in Fnatic. It felt like I was sometimes being targeted a bit, and I obviously didn't like that. Regarding FNC, I think they kind of fucked my image. I think it's why I didn't get a team at the start of the season"

How can you give Rhilech Aatrox in Game 5?
14
u/Ok-Examination-2869 Sep 11 '26
tbh draft is pretty bad for aatrox late but he smurfed so hard early that it didnt matter
5
u/AtMaxSpeed G2 2019 😔 Sep 11 '26
I would think this if it was anyone other than Rhilech on aatrox, but there is no bad draft for Rhilech's aatrox to face. It's like a weaker version of Bin's jax (but also against weaker opponents than Bin).

Rhilech is solo carrying SamD and Poby through most if not all of these games, disgusting jungle gap

u/Sofaboy90 quite suboptimal Sep 11 '26
Navi is having such an impressive debut season, I had high expectations for this org considering the level they perform in other esport titles, but I didnt expect them to be this good in their first season with a roster that probably doesnt cost that much. Lets remember how KCs first season went in comparison. I hope Navi can be a long term addition as a top team, perhaps even rival G2.
7
u/Touro_de_Goa Sep 11 '26
I understand GX felt like they had to take a chance with the roster to crack top 3 but they literally downgraded in both positions. Isma got astro gapped too, poor Jun and Jackies with them leaving i think the days of GX fighting for the top positions are over
11
u/Leyrann_ Sep 11 '26
I feel like across the league (most notably Naak Nako, Rhilech and Jackies) there's enough talent for a third team that, if they can't beat G2 and KC, can at least make them sweat for it and also not embarrass themselves internationally.
10
u/RollingGuy Dictator Perkz Worlds Run Sep 11 '26
Meh, Jackies has talent for sure but he’s just mid Supa he’s super inconsistent and sells the game for no reason
Agree with your general sentiment though
8
u/gordonpamsey Sep 11 '26
Jackies has really progressed as a player but nothing about his style would work with Rhilech. NaVi quite literally sacrifices everything for him on a consistent basis and game plans around him. None of these are Jackies strength and I think they look better apart.

Same with Naak, lyncas and Fleshy work overtime to pressure the whole map so Naak can sidelane in peace.

I think LEC is in a really great spot tbh even though we keep getting dumpstered by NA for whatever reason, the recent international results vs Eastern teams plus having improving players in the league like Naak, Rhilech, Lyncas, Jackies, Jopa and Parus alongside the veterans and a decent ERL system is promising. The only position in which I think LEC significantly lacks in upcoming talent is midlane unfortunately.

Rhilech is really top 3 jungler in EU, maybe even top 2. There is so much wrong with Navi, and yet team looks good thanks to Rhilech

Scale to infinity off a throw? Fail a flash and counterthrow
Gx are truly tactical and strategic masterminds

So GX went from solid 4th place to potentially not even qualifying for Demacia Cup, because they wanted to attack TOP3 with these changes
